ABC News’ Good Morning America and CBS News’ CBS Mornings had a great week, as they were the only two morning shows to experience week-to-week gains for the week of June 16.
GMA may have benefited from some viewer curiosity as it unveiled its new studio space at 7 Hudson Yards. As for CBS Mornings, it saw an impressive bounce back in the demo, recording double-digit gains.
NOTE: Today and CBS Mornings were retitled on Thursday (06/19/25) to Today-TS and CBS Morn, respectively, due to the Juneteenth holiday. CBS Mornings was also retitled on Friday (06/20/25) to CBS-Morn. These retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday – Wednesday and Friday), and CBS’ weekly averages are based on three days (Monday – Wednesday).
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.646 million total viewers and 487,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of June 16. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show increased in total viewers and the demo by +2%. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (June 17), GMA was down by -2% in total viewers but up by +8% in the demo.
Today was the No. 2 morning show in total viewers but held onto first place in the demo, with 2.482 million and 554,000 viewers, respectively, for the just-concluded week. The broadcast was flat in both measured categories compared to the previous week. Unfortunately for Today, its lead over GMA shrank, as it saw a loss of 8,000 demo viewers, narrowing the difference between the two shows to 67,000 demo viewers. Looking at how it performed during the same week in 2024, Today was down by -2% in total viewers but was up by +5% in the demo.
CBS Mornings had 1.868 million total viewers and 314,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show saw gains of +4% in total viewers and +27% in the demo. During the same period in 2024, CBS Mornings experienced a -6% decline in total viewers and a -19% decline in the demo.
